What is advocacy?

Advocacy is about having your views and opinions heard - not other people's.

What is an advocate?

Some one who will ensure that you are supported in making choices which are important in your life.

What will advocate do?

  • listen and support you in putting your views across
  • ensure you are included in all decisions
  • attend meetings with you
    provide you with information
  • be honest and truthful with you
  • do things WITH you whenever we can, and FOR you when you are unable

What an advocate will not do?

  • talk about you to anyone
  • make decisions for you
  • make promises which can't be kept

Who can have an advocate?

  • people living in Ayrshire suffering the effects of mental ill health
  • aged 16 - 65

Confidentiality

Our advocates will respect your confidentiality at all times.
