AAMH - Who are we?

We are a registered charity, which came into being in autumn 1987. Our aims and objectives are: Pressing for and providing improved facilities for those in the Ayr area with continuing mental health needs Promoting and where possible providing an advocacy service for this group of people Co-operating wherever possible with other a agencies both statutory and voluntary Improving public awareness of mental health problems Our philosophy is: To empower our members/users through involving them in decision making, planning and building confidence in other users. The main aspects of our activity are: A Drop in Centre (Turnaround ),a Group Advocacy Project (The Voice), Strathyre Housing support service. Ayr Action has a board of directors. There are currently eight directors each with specific responsibilities. Three of this group are people who regularly attend the day centre. Our next step is to form a group of Company Members consisting mainly of people who use our services, in order that service users can have as much influence on the organisation as possible.
